The Great Battles of Alexander Expanded Deluxe Edition of GMT Games is a historical strategy wargame that represents the great battles of Alexander the Great, Philip II, and the successors of the Macedonian Empire. Designed by Richard H. Berg and Mark Herman, it is part of the famous series Great Battles of History (GBoH) and offers a deep simulation of ancient military art.
The Great Battles of Alexander board game focuses on the command of troops, formations, movement, and the use of different types of units on the battlefield. Macedonian phalanxes, Companion cavalry, Persian Immortals, Greek forces, Scythians, Indians, and war elephants create a demanding ancient warfare strategy game with a strong historical character.
The battles take place on hex maps with counters representing military units and commanders. The scale corresponds to approximately 70 yards per hex, while each strength point represents about 100 men. One turn corresponds to about 20 minutes of real battle, giving the game a strong military simulation character.
The Expanded Deluxe Edition gathers the most significant battles of the original game and additional material, creating an extensive representation of the Macedonian art of war. Scenarios such as Chaeronea, Granicus, Issus, Gaugamela, and Hydaspes allow players to explore different strategies and historical conditions.
