The Russian Campaign, Original 1974 Edition
On 18 December 1940 Hitler issued Führer Directive No. 21, codenamed Barbarossa, which stated: “The Soviet Union must be crushed in a quick campaign before the war with England is over”.
On 22 June 1941, Barbarossa finally began. Over three million German soldiers, most of whom were veterans of the campaigns in Poland, France and the Balkans, began a blitzkrieg-style invasion against two million Russian defenders. The initial advance was spectacular. Hundreds of thousands of prisoners were taken and the mechanized divisions began to outpace the rest of the army. The Germans reached the gates of Moscow, with victory on the horizon. Then winter came.
RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN has been recognized worldwide as one of the best war games. With the ease and user-friendliness of the “classic” games, the game also conveys the feel of a real campaign and is extremely historically accurate. The game's features include railroad movements, naval movements, invasions, stukas, partisans, automatic victory, SS units, sudden-death victory conditions and double-push capabilities. Seven scenarios analyze the overall campaign's major battles.
One board 22″ x 28″, various game aids and charts and a twelve-page rule book. On every player's list of the ten best games, this belongs in every player's library.
