A Gest of Robin Hood
A Gest of Robin Hood adapts the COIN system to portray peasant uprisings, the collection of feudal taxes and the activities of outlaws in late 12th-century medieval England. A simpler form and a more accessible setting make A Gest of Robin Hood ideal for beginners in wargaming. At the same time, it also offers a tight challenge for more experienced wargamers, who can enjoy a tense asymmetric duel in less than an hour.
Highlights:
• An ideal entry point into the COIN system and the ICS series: a two-player game, of relatively low complexity with a family-friendly theme, played in one hour and introducing all the key concepts encountered in the COIN series.
• A new hidden movement mechanism: The sheriff will hunt Robin Hood throughout Nottinghamshire to prevent him from organizing peasant uprisings, but Robin can slip away and hide among his merry men.
• A second new hidden movement mechanism: Carriages serve as a simple variant of the Lines of Communication, carrying wealth back to Nottingham, while serving as a target for robbery by the Good Men – but some of them may be a trap, containing hidden Henchmen!
• Random encounters with wealthy travelers: Robin Hood draws from the travelers' deck when he performs a Robbery action, and then decides whether to play it safe or demand a larger “donation” with potentially negative consequences.
• An improved game sequence: Further developing the two-player game sequence that first appeared in Colonial Twilight, this new game sequence is easily understood while still presenting challenging tactical decisions.
