Into the Woods: The Battle of Shiloh. It is the eighth edition of the Great Battles of the American Civil War (GBACW) series, published by GMT Games.
The Great Battles of the American Civil War series:
This series is one of the hobby's longest-running design concepts, originating from the legendary regimental-level Gettysburg game – Terrible Swift Sword (SPI) – which was designed by Richard Berg in 1976. TThe rules system remained stable, but demonstrated remarkable flexibility in allowing each game to smoothly incorporate additional rules that reflect the historical battles. The series is based on interactive chit-pull mechanisms to simulate the often chaotic nature of the 19th-century battlefield at the regimental level.
Includes ten scenarios. They range from division-level matches on half-size maps to two-map battles depicting both the first and second day of the battle. Experienced players will be able to play many of the scenarios in a single session. The game reflects the Confederacy's surprise. The “greenness” of many units on both sides. And the unique role played by Albert Sidney Johnston in the Confederate attack.
