Elvis Aaron Presley (8 January 1935 – 16 August 1977), more widely known and simply as Elvis, was an American singer, musician and actor. Known as «the King of Rock and Roll» or simply «the King», he is considered one of the greatest artists in the history of show business.

His musical career began in 1954, recording at Sun Studios with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a broader audience. Presley on rhythm acoustic guitar, accompanied by lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, was a pioneer of rockabilly (rockabilly), a combination of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955 drummer D.J. Fontana joined to complete Presley's classic quartet and he signed a contract with RCA Records in a deal arranged by “Colonel” Tom Parker, who was his manager for more than two decades. His first single with RCA, “Heartbreak Hotel”, was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful television appearances and records, he became a pioneer of the new popular sound of rock and roll. His dynamic song performances and provocative style, combined with a unique and powerful mix of influences, made him extremely popular and controversial.

In November 1956, Presley made his film debut with the movie Αγάπα με τρυφερά (Love Me Tender). Going to serve in the army in 1958, Presley restarted his career two years later with great success. He did some concerts; however, guided by Parker, he devoted most of the 1960s to making films and soundtrack records. In 1968, seven years after his last concert, he returned to the stage via a television comeback special called Elvis, which led to a series of concerts in various cities, including Las Vegas. In 1973, Presley performed the concert Aloha from Hawaii, with which he became the first solo artist to give a concert that was broadcast around the world.

Presley is the most commercially successful artist in the history of recorded music, with estimated sales of 500 million records. He won three Grammy Awards and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at the age of 36. In 2018, he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
