Tarawa 1943 Solitaire – Solo Wargame World War II
The Tarawa 1943 Solitaire transports you to the shores of Tarawa, in one of the toughest amphibious operations of World War II. You take command of the 2nd Marine Division of the USA and attempt to capture the island of Betio, against the fortified Japanese forces of commander Shibazaki.
This is a solo wargame of strategy, designed exclusively for one player. Each round you activate one of the eight Marine battalions, making moves, attacks, and attempts to regroup. The cohesion of the units decreases due to battle, exhaustion, and continuous Japanese counterattacks, creating tough decisions at every step.
The Tarawa 1943 Solitaire board game uses a card-driven system. The cards provide you with critical support, such as naval bombardment, air support, engineers, and tanks. Meanwhile, the Japanese resistance is controlled by the game itself through cards that activate fire, fortifications, infiltrations, crossfire, and banzai attacks. Thus, no game unfolds exactly like the previous one.
Victory does not simply require the capture of the island. You must move quickly, limit losses, and maintain as much operational cohesion of your forces as possible. The choice of landing point, the right timing for each attack, and the careful use of support cards can determine the outcome of the operation.
This specific Travel Game edition brings the tested system of the original Tarawa 1943 into a smaller box. It includes paper tokens instead of wooden blocks, a revised map, and standard-sized cards, maintaining the intensity and demanding gameplay of the original. It is an excellent choice for fans of historical board games, strategy games, and World War II solitaire wargames.
