Mimir’s Challenge – Strategy in the Nine Worlds

Mimir’s Challenge is an exciting strategy board game inspired by Scandinavian mythology, where 2–4 players take on the role of powerful Norse Gods and Goddesses and compete for treasures and dominance in the mythical worlds. Designed by Jørgen Brunborg-Næss, the Mimir’s Challenge board game combines area majority, hidden unit deployment, and tactical prediction of opponents' moves.

Each player commands an equivalent army of Vikings, Valkyries, Wyrms, and Ravens. During the placement phase, the Army Tokens are placed face down in the Realms, keeping your plans secret. Once the armies are deployed, all units are revealed simultaneously, and the real strategic battle begins.

The special abilities of Valkyries, Wyrms, and Ravens can move units or treasures between the Realms, tipping the balance of power at the last moment. Then, the area majority determines who first acquires the valuable Treasure Tokens. But beware of ties: two opponents with equal strength may neutralize each other, allowing a third party to snatch the treasure.

Mimir’s Challenge lasts three rounds and adds another strategic dilemma through the Artefact Cards. The treasures can offer immediate points or valuable materials for crafting legendary Norse Artifacts and gaining bonus points at the end of the game.

The main mechanics include Area Majority / Influence, Secret Unit Deployment, Modular Board, Variable Setup, and End Game Bonuses.

At the same time, the game is essentially language independent, as the components use symbols and icons. Rulebooks are included in English, German, French, and Norwegian, while there are two levels of play and an optional advanced rule.
