Board Game – Unconscious Mind
At the beginning of the 1900s, the Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud created a revolutionary theory called psychoanalysis that concerned the study of the unconscious mind. As his work became established, his supporters met at Freud's apartment every Wednesday to discuss psychology and the symbolism of dreams. This group - the Wednesday Psychological Society - marked the beginning of the global psychoanalytic movement. As a member of this society, you aim to develop new therapeutic techniques, establish a practice, grow your clientele and become Freud's most distinguished contemporary. To achieve this in the best way, you should share ideas, discuss with your colleagues, and publish theories. And to stay refreshed, you'll probably need a little coffee – a lot of coffee.
The Unconscious Mind is a Euro-style game with worker placement, engine building, multiple rondels and cascading effects. On your turn, you can place one or two Ideas (workers) on a central meeting table to gain access to a variety of actions, such as adding tiles to your player board, training and playing cards, and moving around the city of Vienna. Where you place your Ideas also determines how far you will advance your rondel's inkwell, activating a row or a column of tile effects on your player board.
To treat your clients and interpret their dreams, you must work with a stock of Insight resources, which you will manage on a multi-level dial. As you work on the dreams that manifest, these Insights will help your clients reach catharsis. This is represented by lifting transparent layers from the clients' cards – unlocking their current special abilities and end-of-game scoring opportunities.
Once the group establishes its reputation, the end of the game is triggered and the member with the most points wins.
