Set against the backdrop of 19th-century industrial development, each player is called to create an efficient industrial area and a well-connected infrastructure network.

The game draws its inspiration from the Oranienburg canal in Brandenburg, which was constructed between 1832 and 1837. As businesses developed around this important waterway, new roads, railways, and industrial facilities were created.

In the Kanal board game, you build industries and shape your area by creating paths, roads, railway lines, and canals. Bridges are particularly important as they connect buildings to the infrastructure network and affect the overall development of your area.

Each round requires careful selection of actions, proper management of available options, and long-term planning. The timing of when you build a building or expand your network can determine your entire strategy. In the end, the winner is the player who has created the best industrial area and the most efficient infrastructure.
