Iron Maiden Piece of Mind Eddie
Straight from the cover of Iron Maiden's 1983 album Piece of Mind, Eddie is dressed in fabric clothing, similar to the toy lines that helped define the licensed action figure market in the 1970s. The band's legendary mascot has a height of 20cm approximately and features real metal chains.
A few words about the album Piece of Mind
When it was released in the United Kingdom, the album reached number three on the sales charts. It was successful with the two singles from the album: Flight of Icarus and especially The Trooper.
The band's lineup underwent another change with the departure of Clive Burr to Trust, while Trust's drummer Nicko McBrain joined Iron Maiden. The lineup remained stable for several years and for three more studio albums.
The band's multiple cultural influences are reflected in its compositions. Thus:
- The To Tame a Land is inspired by the novel Dune by Frank Herbert (1965). The solo is based on a theme from Asturias (Leyenda) by Isaac Albéniz2 ,
- The The Trooper from an episode of the Battle of Balaclava, which inspired a poem by Alfred Tennyson (1854) and several film adaptations. The lyrics reflect the point of view of a soldier who died in battle and the guitars in the introduction are intended to recall the gallop of the horses.
- The Where Eagles Dare from the novel by Alistair MacLean When Eagles Attack (1967) and the film based on it (Brian G. Hutton, 1968).
- The Quest for Fire from the novel La Guerre du feu (J.-H. Rosny) and the film based on it (Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1981).
- The The Flight of Icarus based on the Greek myth of Icarus as seen through his own eyes against the backdrop of the theme of paternal betrayal.
- The Sun and Steel for the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi
- Mysticism with the song Revelations.
