War for America: The American Revolution 1775–1782
War for America: The American Revolution, 1775-1782 is a strategic game based on the events during the American Revolution. It is a 2-player game that shows how the conflict, which began as a 'civil war', turned into a global conflict with a Great Britain that was very isolated.
The Colonial player must create a 'Continental Army' to fight the British, in order to prevent the overrunning of any sister colony. This will take time and he must 'hold' and try to defeat a large British force, to impress Great Britain's old enemies.
The game is played at Grand Strategic level and each strength point equals 1.000 men or less. Players will concentrate forces to take control of colonies and regions. When French recognition is achieved, around 1778, a completely new dimension is added to the conflict. France, Spain and the Netherlands will bring fleets to the waters of North America and the Caribbean, challenging Britain's dominance on the seas.
The game uses the popular 'point-to-point' movement system, but more carefully shapes the geography of North America. This is done by enhancing the movement of armies along the major drainage basins. Armies are not destroyed in a single battle, as many previous games have shown, but will display realistic casualty figures with widespread results of retreat and disruption.
The war for America attempts to show the conflict from the British perspective and how an 'insurrection' turned into a World War. Great Britain is alone, without allies, but the Colonies do not have it easy either. Despite their inexperience and individual identities, they must unite to create and maintain a Continental Army. This is a 'grand game', but it also contains a shorter scenario that starts in 1778, which takes about half the time to play.
