The story of Winterfall takes place five years after the events of the base game. Captain Freya has now evolved into an experienced leader, and new challenges await players on the frozen Starbeak Island. A heavy winter blankets the island, transforming the game board through dynamic weather phenomena that affect every strategic decision.

The expansion introduces the new Weather Effects system, with Blizzards, Auroras, and other changing weather phenomena that constantly alter the central board. Certain areas offer strong advantages, while others negatively affect the Habitats, creating new challenges and significantly increasing the strategic depth of the game.

In the Wondrous Creatures: Winterfall Expansion, the mysterious Spirits also make their appearance, a brand new type of creatures that only appear during winter and interact directly with the weather conditions. At the same time, the expansion adds new Creature Cards, new Captains, additional Achievements, and even more content that significantly increases the variety and replayability of each game.
