Wise Guys is a quick-to-learn, cutthroat area-control board game in which you play as one of four rival gangs trying to get rich as “Rum Runners” on the tough streets of Chicago at the height of the ’20s.
In each round, players move, negotiate, talk and fight to control the locations where they buy and sell alcohol, help politicians get elected and receive help in return or betray rival gangs. Negotiate, threaten and ally with rival gangs when it suits your needs, but beware the inevitable knife in the back…
In six rounds, players take turns moving to locations in the city represented by the grid of cards in the center of the board. Different locations provide access to materials, cash or influence that the members of a player's gang can “acquire” through trading, earning profits from properties within their territory or exploiting parts of the city that are under the control of a rival gang. All players must maintain a certain discretion, as selling excessive quantities in one round will draw unwanted attention or will otherwise saturate the city with alcohol – and your fellow mobsters will not be very happy about the lost profits.
The gang with the most cash at the end of the game wins.
