Gettysburg: A Time for Heroes is an impressive historical tabletop game that depicts the legendary Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War. Based on the award-winning game Chancellorsville 1863 (Charles S. Roberts Award), this card-driven wargame combines historical accuracy with strategic depth, giving players the opportunity to relive one of the most decisive battles in history.
Players take on the role of Union or Confederate commanders, using wooden tokens that represent army corps (Union Corps) and divisions (Confederate Divisions). The game uses a cohesion system to track unit strength, fatigue and morale, while movement is point-to-point across key areas of the battlefield.
The battle begins with no troops in the town, with Lee and Meade anxious about the arrival of reinforcements. Some units may arrive earlier, others much later, adding tension and unpredictable developments.
The Confederates' victory depends on capturing strategic points according to the timing of the battle, while the Union must prevent this capture while simultaneously protecting the integrity of the Army of the Potomac. The loss of three Army Corps means defeat.
