Deadly Dowagers is a game of weddings, murders, and money. You compete with the other lovely ladies of your town, strategically increasing your dowry while taking care not to acquire too bad a reputation, otherwise the duke may pass you over for another bride!
You play as a middle-class Victorian woman who would kill to become a duchess. Since you weren't lucky enough to be born into the aristocracy, the only way to attract a nobleman is to have a sufficiently large dowry. Fortunately, when your parents died they left you a small dowry and some land. You must build wealth through investments and a series of strategic marriages.
The game is divided into rounds - each round consists of four separate phases: training, investment, spouse, and household. In each round, each player draws a hand of cards, pick-and-pass style. Some cards are played on the players' boards. Immediate cards are used and discarded. Players who play death cards partially reset their board and gain income. Players discard up to eight cards from their hand, and then draw four new cards.
The game ends when a player has no current spouse, has no more than 9 dishonors, has spent 120 crowns, and plays a new marriage card to marry the Duke. That player wins.
