In Rival Restaurants you aim to be the first restaurant to collect 20 popularity points and be crowned “The Wiener”! Players earn popularity points by buying and trading ingredients and using them to “cook” (complete) recipes. The more advanced the recipe, the more points it is worth.
Each day, players go through three phases:
1. MONEY and MOVEMENT. Players collect their income for the day and decide where they want to move. The round's economy is vital! Players are not allowed to move for the rest of the day once they have chosen their location.
2) MARKET and BAZAAR: Players have one minute to buy as much as they want, but only from the location where they are. Players can also exchange/trade with anyone in the game, not just with the people who are at their location.
3) COOKING and SCORING. Each player who has all the ingredients required for their recipe can cook it and collect popularity points.
Additionally, each player controls a chef equipped with their own “chef power”. Chef powers are asymmetric and allow players to turn the rules to their advantage. The base game of Rival Restaurants has twelve chefs. Additionally, at the start of the game each player must choose a restaurant to play. Each restaurant has a unique level-up progression structure with rewards for reaching 3, 7 and 12 popularity points. Finally, players can choose to buy “action cards”, i.e. development cards that are typically intended for one-time use.
