Cthulhu is a cosmic entity created by author H. P. Lovecraft. It was introduced in his short story “The Call of Cthulhu”, which was published by the American pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928. It is considered a Great Old One within the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities and since then this creature has appeared in many references in popular culture. Lovecraft depicts it as a gigantic being worshipped by cultists, in the form of a green octopus, a dragon and a caricature of the human form. The Lovecraft-inspired universe, the Cthulhu Mythos, in which it exists alongside other entities, took its name from it.
In “The Call of Cthulhu”, H. P. Lovecraft describes a statue of Cthulhu as follows: “A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head, whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet and long, narrow wings on its back.” Cthulhu is said to resemble a green octopus, a dragon and a caricature of a human, standing hundreds of meters tall, with webbing, arms and legs resembling human ones and a pair of rudimentary wings on its back[11]. Its head is depicted as similar to that of a gigantic octopus, with an unknown number of tentacles surrounding its supposed mouth.
