The “Wayfarers of the South Tigris” takes place during the height of the Abbasid Caliphate, around 820 A.D. As brave explorers, cartographers and astronomers, the players set out from Baghdad. Their goal is to map the surrounding land, waterways and the sky. Players must carefully manage their caravan of workers and equipment. At the same time they must regularly report their findings to the House of Wisdom. Will you manage to impress the Caliph or will you lose your way and succumb to the wilderness?
The objective of Wayfarers of the South Tigris is to be the player with the most victory points at the end. Points are earned mainly from mapping the land, the water and the sky. Players can also earn points from upgrading their caravans, from the inspiration of nobles, and from the influence of the three guilds of science, trade and exploration. As they make discoveries, players will want to quickly record their progress. The game ends once a player's marker reaches the far-right column of the journal track.
