Pirates of Maracaibo: Commanders is the first official expansion of the popular board game Pirates of Maracaibo (2023), designed by Alexander Pfister, Ryan Hendrickson and Ralph Bienert. This expansion enhances the base game's experience by adding new mechanics, content and strategic options for 1 to 4 players, ages 12 and up.
In the Commanders expansion, players take on the role of notorious pirates or captains, each with unique abilities that offer asymmetric strategies. The new commander cards and double-sided exploration boards provide variety and replayability, while the addition of cannons allows attacking forts for extra victory points and special actions. Additionally, the rum trade introduces a new resource necessary to activate the commanders' abilities.
The expansion includes: 12 commander boards, 2 double-sided exploration map pieces, 6 level I cards, 32 level II cards, 4 ship figures, 2 rum market tiles, 16 fort tiles, 15 rum tokens, 25 cannon tokens, 1 neutral explorer, 3 black commander markets and 2 solo game cards.
