The Italy ’43 board game is a military strategy board game that accurately recreates the campaign of the U.S. 5th Army during World War ’II in Italy. Designed by Mark Simonitch and published by GMT Games, the game continues chronologically from Salerno ’43, covering the period from 2 October to 31 December 1943, with the mission of advancing from Naples to the Gustav Line.
The Italy ’43 wargame includes four different scenarios: Across the Volturno, The Barbara Line, The Mignano Gap and the full Campaign Game. Players have at their disposal a paper map (25.5″ x 22″), counters, rules, and reinforcement cards, offering a complete historical wargaming experience. Unit scale ranges from battalion to brigade, with each turn representing 2-3 days and each hex 3.8 km.
The core mechanisms include Zones of Control (ZOC Bonds), Prepared Attacks, Continued Attacks, and Construction of Defensive Lines, offering realism and tactical challenge. The Italy ’43 strategy board game is suitable for 1 to 2 players, ages 14+, with a playing time of 2–4 hours.
