Saltfjord board game – Board game in the North with Dice, Fishing & Technology
The Saltfjord board game is a strategic board game for 1 to 4 players, lasting approximately 45–90 minutes and combining dice selection, tile placement and set collection mechanisms. It was created by Kristian Amundsen Østby and Eilif Svensson and was released in 2024 by Aporta Games.
The game is set in a Norwegian fishing village in the late 19th century. Players take on the role of community leaders, trying to lead their village to prosperity through building new structures, strengthening fishing activities, commercial activity and pioneering new technologies.
Saltfjord uses a unique dice-selection mechanism, inspired by the “Santa Maria”, but completely redesigned and with new elements. During three rounds, players select dice to activate buildings in their settlement, providing resources and triggering actions such as dispatching the fishing boat, progressing along the various technology tracks, fulfilling trade orders, or constructing new buildings.
The game's variable setup, with special abilities and end-scoring tiles, offers high replayability. The game is language-independent, with an English rulebook.
