A few words about the KISS
Kiss are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals) and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Known for their face painting and stage outfits, the band became famous in the mid-1970s for their live performances in a shock rock style, which included fire, spitting blood, smoking guitars, fired rockets, levitating drums and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only constant members. The current lineup consists of them, Tommy Thayer (guitar) and Eric Singer (drums).
With their makeup and costumes, the band members adopted comic-book type character personas: the Starchild (Stanley), the Demon (Simmons), the Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley) and the Catman (Criss). Due to creative differences, Criss left the band in 1980 and Frehley in 1982. They were replaced by Eric Carr (the Fox) and Vinnie Vincent (the Ankh Warrior), respectively.
In 1983, Kiss began appearing without makeup and costumes, marking the start of the “unmasked” era of the band that would last until 1996. The band experienced a commercial resurgence during this period, with the platinum album Lick It Up of 1983 successfully introducing them to a new generation of fans and its music videos being played regularly on MTV. Vincent left the band in 1984, and was briefly replaced by Mark St. John and more permanently by Bruce Kulick. Eric Carr died in 1991 of heart-related causes and was replaced by Eric Singer. Responding to a wave of Kiss nostalgia in the mid-1990s, the original lineup reunited in 1996, whereupon the makeup and stage costumes returned. The resulting reunion tour was extremely successful, grossing 143,7 million dollars, making it the band's most successful tour to date. Criss and Frehley then left the band again and were replaced by Singer and Tommy Thayer, respectively. The band continued with its original stage makeup, with Singer and Thayer using the original Catman and Spaceman makeup, respectively. In September 2018, Kiss announced that, after 45 years of recording and performing, they would begin their final tour, the End of the Road World Tour, which began in January of 2019 and will conclude in New York in December of 2023
