Hollywood 1947
We are in 1947 and you are a member of Hollywood's thriving film industry. However, there is suspicion that communists are hiding in your small production studio and are inserting “unpatriotic” messages, themes, sets, and lines into your films! Will you manage to find all the communists before your studio is shut down? Or will you be suspected as well and be banned from the industry?
In the game each player will be secretly a Patriot, a Communist, or a Rising Star. In each round each player will have a unique job to perform (such as the screenwriter, the gofer, the director, the actor, the editor, etc.). These jobs will affect the type of film that is shot that round, the cards players have in their hands, and who will receive special information. Players may choose to skip their jobs and instead re-roll two of the game's dice. At the end of each round players with stars on their dice will be able to add a card to the film.
The additional cards will be shuffled, one will be removed, and the rest will be revealed. The team with the most revealed symbols (including the symbols on the round's film poster) wins the round! Indicate the winning team of the round by placing that team's corresponding film token on the film poster. The first team to win 4 rounds wins the game! The Rising Star plays both sides trying to make the game go to 7 rounds and to force the 7th round into a tie.
Hollywood 1947 is a social deduction game. You should never show your cards or your loyalty to anyone, but you can say whatever you want about the cards you put into a film or about your true loyalty. Open discussion about which cards were added to a film is encouraged. However, if you are a Communist or the Rising Star, lying will often help you achieve your goals, since the majority of players will be Patriots. That's it. Most players understand the gist of the game after only a few minutes. So let's go make some movies, but watch who you trust!
