Deutsche Hanse or in Latin, Hansa Teutonica are the alternative names for the Hanseatic League, an alliance between the merchant guilds and later the early cities of Germany. The alliance began to emerge in the mid-12th century without having been clearly founded and no form of admission to it existed until the second half of the 14th century. Thus it is almost impossible to say which cities belonged to the alliance during that period, however almost 200 cities are involved directly or indirectly.
In Hansa Teutonica players try to improve their position as negotiators in the alliance by earning prestige points. This can be done in many ways : The construction of a network of trading agencies in the new cities can be just as promising as improving the merchants' skills.
Players perform various actions during the rounds. Merchants can enter onto the board or move, they can even move other players' merchants. If subsequently a player also owns an entire trade route between two cities, a new agency can be set up. However, players can also develop their trading abilities throughout the game.
