The Root board game is an exciting experience of asymmetric tactics and political control in a fictional forest full of animals with… personality! With 2 to 4 players (or up to 6 with the Riverfolk expansion), each player takes on a completely different role, with unique mechanisms, abilities and victory conditions. This offers rich replayability and strategic depth rarely found in a board game.
The story begins with the Marquise de Cat, who has taken over the forest to build an industrial empire. Opposing him are the forces of the Woodland Alliance, who work from the shadows to mobilize the forest's inhabitants. The Eyrie Dynasties, former rulers of the area, strive to regain their power, while the Vagabonds play all sides depending on their interests — allies or traitors.
Root stands out for Kyle Ferrin's beautiful illustration, quality components and its top asymmetric mechanics. With a playtime of about 60–90 minutes and high language dependence (in the English version), it is an ideal choice for more advanced players who want to immerse themselves in a rich and dynamic strategic ecosystem.
