He is a house-elf from the Malfoy family, who becomes friends with Harry and tries to save his life many times. In the seventh and final book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, he is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange while helping Harry and his friends escape from Malfoy Manor. He was avenged by Molly Weasley, who killed Bellatrix Lestrange.
He is a main character in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and a supporting character in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”.
After failing to find work during Harry's third year at Hogwarts, Dobby came to work in the kitchens of Hogwarts along with many other house-elves, including Winky, the dismissed house-elf of Barty Crouch Sr. Dobby's only condition was that he be allowed to wear clothes, to the great disgust of the other house-elves, who considered him a mad and disturbed intruder for his independent behavior.
During his employment at Hogwarts, Dobby became close friends with Aberforth Dumbledore and spent a lot of time at Aberforth's home in Hogsmeade. Aberforth seemed to have a close relationship with Dobby, as he was very saddened when he learned that he had died. At Christmas, Hermione always made clothes as gifts for all the hard-working house-elves at Hogwarts and believed that they all loved them. In reality, Dobby confided to Harry that he was the one who took all those gifts, as no house-elf dares to accept clothes, which are an insult to them’ and a symbol of unemployment.
He died saving Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna Lovegood, Dean Thomas, Garrick Ollivander and Griphook from the Malfoys and Voldemort's wrath. Aberforth sent him to help them, but he lost his life at the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange.
