Escape From Colditz is a semi-cooperative 1 versus many game, where one player is the security officer of the German forces and the others are escape officers of various nationalities or prisoners of war. The Escape Officers try to obtain the equipment they need for a successful escape (rope, wire cutters, etc.), while the Security Officer tries to stop them by placing them in solitary confinement and confiscating their equipment.
The game lasts for a predetermined period of time or number of rounds. If an Escape Officer manages to free a predetermined number of prisoners of war (usually 2) before then, he wins. Otherwise, the Security Officer wins.
The game was co-designed by Major PR Reid, a British soldier who was one of the few who managed to successfully escape from Colditz during the Β’ World War.
