A Few Words About the Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons (usually abbreviated D&D or DnD) is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game (RPG) originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.
D&D departs from traditional wargaming by allowing each player to create their own character to play instead of a military formation. These characters embark on adventures in a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) serves as the game’s referee and storyteller. At the same time, they maintain the setting in which the adventures take place and play the role of the world’s inhabitants, also referred to as non-player characters (NPCs). The characters form a party and interact with the setting’s inhabitants and with one another. Together they solve dilemmas, engage in battles, explore, and collect treasure and knowledge. In the process, the characters gain experience points (XP) to level up and become increasingly powerful over a series of distinct gameplay sessions.
