The Colonialism is a 19th-century game of imperial struggle. In this game, each player assumes the role of an unspecified colonial power. Players continue to vie for influence in the non-industrialized regions of the world and the consequent resources that such influence entails.
Each round is divided into action phases and colonization phases. During the action phases, players use cards to secretly place influence in the six regions of the game's board. During the colonization phases, all cards in play are revealed, influence placement is resolved, and conflict takes place.
Each time all local influence is eliminated from a region, the resources of that region are collected. The amount of resources collected by each player depends on each player's influence in the region. At the end of the game, the player who has collected the most resources wins.
