Cascadia: Alpine Lakes – Standalone Strategy Board Game
Cascadia: Alpine Lakes is a standalone abstract strategy board game and the new standalone sequel to the award-winning Cascadia. Designed by Randy Flynn, it transports players back to the stunning ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest, this time in alpine landscapes where lakes, mountains, and wildlife create a new three-dimensional spatial puzzle. The base Cascadia is not required to play.
In the board game Cascadia Alpine Lakes, each round remains easy to execute: you choose a pair of habitat tile and wildlife token and add it to your environment. The big change lies in the new double-hexagon habitat tiles, which can now be stacked on top of each other. Thus, the familiar tile-laying and drafting of Cascadia gains height, creating new challenges around stacking, adjacency, and spatial placement.
Five types of wildlife must be strategically placed within three different alpine habitats. The scoring objectives change from game to game, while additional points arise from how well surrounded and how high the lakes and wildlife are. The Habitat and Environment Scoring Cards add different scoring conditions, creating thousands of possible combinations.
Cascadia: Alpine Lakes thus retains the accessible logic of Cascadia but evolves the environmental puzzle into three dimensions. The mechanisms of Tile Placement, Open Drafting, Pattern Building, Hexagon Grid, and Layering create a family abstract strategy game with simple rounds but significant spatial decisions.
With a duration of 30–45 minutes and the ability to play for 1–4 players, Cascadia: Alpine Lakes is suitable for both solo play and for families and friends of puzzle and nature board games.
