The Battle of Five Armies is based on the climax of the novel of JRR Tolkien “The Hobbit”. It pits the soldiers of the Elvenking, the Dwarves of Dain Ironfoot and the Men of the Lake against a horde of Wolves, Goblins and Bats. Will Gandalf manage to turn the situation in favor of the Free Peoples? Will the Eagles arrive or will Beorn come to save them? Or will Bilbo the Hobbit be lost in a last stand at Ravenhill?
The Battle of Five Armies includes a board that depicts the eastern and southern outlets of the Lonely Mountain and the valley they enclose. It also has a number of plastic figures that represent troops, heroes and monsters.
The Battle of Five Armies is a standalone game based on the rules of War of the Ring. It comes from the same designers but with the rules modified. This is so they operate at a tactical level, as they describe a smaller battle and not the entire war.
