SCOUT is a game in which the cards have two possible values, players cannot rearrange their hand of cards, and players may pass their turn to take a card from the current high set of cards in their hand.
More specifically, the cards have a double index, with different values on each half of the card, with the 45 cards containing all possible combinations of the numbers 1-10. During setup, whoever shuffles the cards should brandomize both the order of the cards in the deck and their orientation. When each player has received their full hand of cards, they take their hand without rearranging any of the cards. If they wish, they can rotate their entire hand of cards in order to use the values on the other end of each card, but again they cannot rearrange the order of the cards in their hand.
On each turn, a player takes one of two actions:
– Play: The player selects one or more adjacent cards in their hand that all have the same value or that have consecutive values (either ascending or descending), and then plays that set of cards to the table. They can do this only if the table is empty (as on the first turn) or if the set they play is higher-ranking than the set that is currently on the table- a set is higher-ranking if it has more cards or has cards of the same value instead of consecutive cards or has a set of the same quantity and the same type but with higher values. In this latter case, when a player covers another set, the player takes the cards of the previous set and places them face up in front of them.
– Does Scout: A player takes a card from either end of the set currently on the table and places it wherever they wish in their hand in any orientation. Whoever played that previous set receives 1 VP token as a reward for having played a set that wasn't taken from.
When a player empties the cards from their hand or when all players except one have knocked instead of playing, the round ends. Players receive 1 point for each face-down card, and then subtract one point for each card in their hand (unless they were the player who was repeatedly knocked to end the game). You play as many rounds as there are players, and then the player with the most points wins.
