In 1964, at the World’s Fair in New York, an attractively designed coupe specially aimed at young drivers was presented to the public, delighting visitors. On the first day of sales, the 8.000 available models were sold and a further 22.000 orders were placed. Initially the classic coupe and the convertible were offered on the market, and in 1965 the 2+2 Fastback followed, a hatchback coupé. All three types were offered with different engine variants, including an eight-cylinder engine 289 cc (4,7 liters) with up to 275 horsepower. The top speed of the long-term Mustang 2 +2 Fastback was about 189 km/h and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h was recorded in 9,0 seconds.
