Pop! Figure The Wizard of OZ Tin Man
Nick Chopper, the Tin Woodman, is a character of the fictional Land of Oz created by American author L. Frank Baum. He first appeared in Baum's 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and reappeared in many other later books of the Oz series. In late 19th-century America, men made from various tin pieces were used in advertising and political cartoons. Baum, who published a shop window-dressing magazine when he wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, was inspired to invent the Tin Woodman by a figure he had made from metal pieces for a shop window.
In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy Gale becomes friends with the Tin Woodman after she finds him rusted in the forest, as he had been caught in the rain, and uses his oil can to free him. He follows her to the Emerald City to get a heart from the Wizard. On their adventure they are accompanied by the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion. The Wizard sends Dorothy and her friends to the Winkie Country to kill the Wicked Witch of the West. The Tin Woodman's axe proves useful on this journey both for cutting wood to make a bridge or a raft as needed, and for cutting off the heads of animals that threaten the party. When the winged monkeys are sent by the Witch of the West against the group, they drop the Tin Woodman from a great height, causing him severe damage. The Winkie Tin Woodman repairs him after the Witch's death.
