Pop! Figure The Wizard of OZ Wicked Witch
The Wicked Witch of the West (Wicked Witch) is a fictional character who appears in the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), which was created by the American author L. Frank Baum. In Baum's subsequent Oz novels, the Nome King is the main villain- the Wicked Witch of the West is rarely mentioned again after her death in the first book.
The most popular depiction of the witch was in the classic 1939 film based on Baum's novel, in which she was portrayed by Margaret Hamilton. Hamilton's portrayal introduced green skin and this continued in later literary and dramatic representations.
The Wicked Witch of the West is the malevolent ruler of the Winkie Country. Her castle is described as beautiful rather than the dark fortress that appears in the 1939 film. In all versions, she is afraid of water. The Wicked Witch of the West had no relation to the Wicked Witch of the East, but allied with her, with the Wicked Witch of the South and the Wicked Witch of the North to conquer the Land of Oz and divide it among themselves, as recounted in L. Frank Baum's book “Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz”. She shows no interest in the death of the Wicked Witch of the East and the only thing that interests her is to obtain the Silver Shoes that will increase her power. W. W. Denslow's illustration for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz depicts her as an old hag with three braids and an eye patch. Baum himself clarified that she had only one eye, but that it “was as powerful as a telescope”, allowing the witch to see what was happening in her realm from the windows of her castle. Other illustrators, such as Paul Granger, placed her eye in the center of her forehead, like a cyclops. She is usually depicted wearing an eye patch- however, in some illustrations she is shown with two eyes.
