The Pop! Albums : AC/DC – Back in Black, which was released on 25 July 1980, is the sixth album by the hard rock band AC/DC. It was the band's first album recorded with singer Brian Johnson, replacing Bon Scott, the previous singer who had died six months earlier and to whom the album paid tribute.
With estimated sales of over 50 million copies, it is the band's most successful album and the second best-selling album of all time after Michael Jackson's Thriller. It is also recognized as one of the most important hard rock albums. In December 2021, Rolling Stone Australia named it the “best Australian album of all time”.
The album cover is entirely black. The band's name and the album title are simply written in white. For the 2003 vinyl and CD reissue, the band's name and the album title are black, but the band's name is embossed in white and the album's name is embossed. According to Malcolm Young, the company refused for a long time to accept the idea of a black cover, fearing that nobody would notice the album on the shelves. Negotiations over the cover took longer than the recording of the album.
