Do you know what’s awesome? Laughing with your family or friends without everyone staring at their phone. Or spending an evening with friends without just saying, “What are we doing today? Going out for drinks?” Well, modern board games do exactly that: they bring you closer to your people, without WiFi, without notifications, without scrolling.
But let’s take things from the beginning and talk not about board games in general, but about “modern board games.”
So, as you’ve already guessed, I’m not talking about Monopoly, Cluedo, the Game of the Goose, or Snakes and Ladders (I have absolutely nothing against them, but maybe, just maybe, we could take it one level upa notch? Maybe we should give a chance to games that are more “clever,” with better art, more fun, and above all, games that can put even grandma and grandpa in the player’s seat? Start all together a game. NOW!
And then you come and ask me: “Why should I play board games? They’re just games.” But I’ll tell you this:
They are the perfect excuse to gather the family around the table (and not for food this time, though it can be both)
Board games make you think, laugh, and cooperate.
A board game gives you the chance to put your phone aside for a while and give all your attention to something else.
Through it, you call upon your strategy, your creativity, and even your empathy.

There are so many board games to choose from. So many categories:
Family board games with simple, easy-to-understand rules. Ideal for gathering family and friends around a table. Without too many explanations. Fun games where every session is different! (that’s a given)
Strategy: For those who love thinking, for those who want to sharpen their minds just a liiiittle more. Do you like making plans in your head about how you’ll move? How you’ll manage your resources? Do you enjoy competition? Don’t overthink it. Grab an Ark Nova for example, and enjoy the game.
Cooperative games: Everyone against the game. How does that sound? All together as a team sharing information, making decisions to reach a common goal (either you all win or you all lose)
Now if you want to combine that sense of “together” with “everyone for themselves,” then you go for something else. A semi-cooperative game. What happens here? Everyone starts as a team, but in the end someone will turn it to their own advantage…
War games & historical board games: A completely different vibe, more “serious.” Historical games recreate historical battles and conquests, placing great emphasis on strategy, detail, and immersion.
Abstract Strategy: Games with depth. Something like chess. They do not rely on a thematic story, but on pure strategic thinking.
Card games: Friendly little games or not. From 15-minute games to more complex deck-building ones that can also take some time, huh?
Miniature Games: Games with miniatures that bring the game world to life on the table. From battles in fantasy universes like The Witcher to sci-fi missions and dungeon crawlers. They offer rich gameplay, a cinematic experience, and figures you do not want to put back in the box. On the contrary, you want to start painting them and visually “elevate” them.
And of course we must not forget the party games. How could I not mention them, since they are the most “social” games. Exactly what you need for big groups, shouting, trash talk, roaring laughter… Guaranteed fun!
So as you can see, board games are no longer “childish.” Of course, there are also games for younger ages. But gaming nowadays has moved into another dimension. With so much progress in everything, it could not remain stagnant. And we are not talking simply about entertainment. We are talking about culture, about a way to connect, to laugh, to leave the screen behind and look each other in the eyes. We are talking about quality time. With laughter. With teasing. With that “one last game” that is never really the last.
Laugh, play, connect…
