Magnetic Middle Size Chess + Checker
Chess is a strategic board game played between two players. It is played on the «chessboard», a diagram of 64 squares painted alternately black and white and arranged horizontally and vertically in dimensions 8×8. Each player has 16 pieces at their disposal: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops and eight pawns. Each of the six types of pieces performs different moves on the board. One player plays with the white pieces and the other with the black pieces. The aim of each player is to achieve checkmate against the opponent's king, so that he is not able to meet an attack he receives from the opponent's pieces (the king in chess is not captured, since once he is found in checkmate the game ends). Pieces are used to provide support to other pieces of the same color or to attack and capture opponent pieces. Apart from achieving checkmate, a player wins if his opponent resigns voluntarily («gives up»), as he judges his defeat to be inevitable. Another possible result of a chess game is a draw, which can occur in various ways.
Chess is believed to have originated in India before the 7th century. The value of the pieces was determined in Spain in the 15th century, while the rules of the game were finalized in the 19th century. Today, chess is played by millions of people around the world, while new types of the game, which differ from the classical one in terms of the rules or / and in terms of the type of chessboard, have also become significantly popular.
