Looney Tunes Tweety plush 35cm
He made his first appearance in 1942 in the film “A Tale of Two Kitties”, directed by Bob Clampett, but he did not team up with Sylvester until five years later. In 1947 the cartoon “Tweetie Pie” brought them face to face for the first time. The cartoon, which won an Oscar, was the beginning of many short cartoons that would follow.
Design
His design was initially based on a baby photograph of Bob Clampett. In “A Tale of Two Kitties” his speech is odd, as he mispronounces many words, such as “pussy cat”, which he says as “puddy tat”. His name was originally Orson, but this soon changed, as his current name had already appeared in his second cartoon, “Birdy and the Beast” (1944). Initially he had been presented simply as a wild bird, whose species had not yet been clarified and he lived in an outdoor nest high in a tree- only in 1947 did he have his first domestic role and his first human interaction in “Tweetie Pie”, however he would continue to live in an outdoor nest in later short films.
