Minnie Mouse is an anthropomorphic cartoon mouse character created by Walt Disney. She is the longtime girlfriend of Mickey Mouse, known for her sweet disposition, large bows on her head and polka-dot dresses. She is also recognizable by her signature phrase, “Yoo-hoo!”. Inspired by the flapper girls of the 1920s, Minnie first appeared in the short film Steamboat Willie, which was released on 18 November 1928.
Minnie is traditionally depicted as a hungry musician, singer and songwriter. During the 1930s, Minnie often took part in Mickey's adventures, often as a damsel who falls victim to kidnapping by Pete. In the 1940s, Minnie was limited to small roles in cartoons starring her kitten Figaro and Mickey's dog Pluto. By the 1950s, she had fallen completely into obscurity and remained inactive for three decades.
