The “Emperor of the Flame” Sabo is the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army, recognized as No 2 of the entire organization and second only to the Supreme Commander Monkey D. Dragon. He is also the sworn brother of the notorious pirates Monkey D. Luffy and the late Portgas D. Ace.

Raised in an aristocratic environment by his parents Outlook III and Didit in the Kingdom of Goa, Sabo ran away at age 10 aiming to become a pirate and to write a book about his travels, and he met Ace and Luffy while living as a vagabond at Gray Terminal. A few months later he tried to sail away to leave his family, but his ship was destroyed by the World Noble Saint Jalmack, he was saved by the Dragon, but lost his memory in the process and thus devoted his life to the service of the Revolutionary Army. However, his memory returned 10 years later, after he learned of Ace's death. Two years after recovering his memory, Sabo reunited with Luffy and also carried on Ace's legacy by consuming his Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi.
