Terraforming Mars

In the 2400s, humanity begins to shape the planet Mars. Giant corporations, funded by the World Government of Earth, launch massive projects to raise the temperature, oxygen level and ocean coverage until the environment becomes habitable. In Terraforming Mars, you play as one of these corporations and cooperate in the terraforming process, but compete to earn victory points awarded not only for your contribution to terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure across the solar system and for other laudable things.

As a player, you acquire unique project cards (from over two hundred different ones) by buying them into your hand. The cards can give you immediate bonuses, as well as increase your production of various resources. Many cards also have requirements and become playable when the temperature, oxygen or ocean coverage has increased enough. Buying cards is expensive, so there is a balance between buying cards and actually playing them. Standard projects are always available to fill your hand. Your base income, as well as your basic score, are based on the Terraform Rating. However, your income is boosted by your production, and VPs are also earned from many other sources.

You track your production and resources on your player board. The game uses six types of resources: steel, titanium, plants, energy and heat. On the game board, you compete for the best spots for city tiles, ocean tiles and greenery tiles. You also compete for various milestones and awards that are worth many VPs.
