KOI
As a κόι fish, you spend your days (turns) swimming back and forth by playing a series of movement cards, aiming to gobble up as many dragonflies and frogs as you can each day. Each movement card has between two and four programmed moves – straight, turn, rotate in either direction and leap over a space – with some moves being mandatory when played and others optional.
Your serene lake with the ΚΟΙ starts with a few decorative stones and some water lilies, but you will also receive natural beauty cards in your hand that allow the player to add more water lilies, cherry blossoms, decorative stones and frogs – which on the one hand enhance the lake's beauty and on the other stir up turbulence beneath the calm waters for the other koi. Water lilies are great, as they spawn dragonflies each round, each worth 3 victory points when consumed. Cherry blossoms ripple the surface of the water as they land, causing all living things to scatter in the opposite direction – and if you play the blossoms wisely, straight into your mouth! Stones block fish from entering a space and are best placed to obstruct an opponent's path to a meal. Frogs are themselves tasty 1 VP meals, but they also eat dragonflies in neighboring spaces, so they are often placed to deprive opponents of their dinner.
As the weather changes and a new event card for the day's KOI is revealed, your strategy must change as well. At the end of the seven days, the game ends, with the winner being the fish that is best fed. Be wise, be quick, or go hungry. Persevere and you will succeed.
The game also features a solo play mode, where you must overcome a programmed AI opponent, with adjustable difficulty settings.
