A Few Words About the Album
News of the World is the title of the sixth studio album by the British rock band Queen, which was released on 28 October 1977.
In the summer of 1977, the band returned to the studio to record the successor to “A Day at the Races”, at a time when musical genres such as punk, new wave and disco had become particularly popular. Wanting to explore the first two of these, the band began composing and recording shorter, rawer rock tracks, without the multiple overdubs of the past.
Before the album, the single “We Are the Champions / We Will Rock You” was released, accompanied by the video clip, which was filmed on 6 October 1977 at the “New London Theatre” together with members of the band's fan club.[6] It enjoyed great success, reaching the second position on the British charts and the fourth on the American Billboard. In February 1978, the single “Spread Your Wings” was released in Europe and two months later “It’s Late” in America, without achieving particular success.
The album climbed to the fourth position on the charts in their homeland and the third position in the United States, while it reached the top in France and the Netherlands, as well as # 2 on the “RPM Charts” of Canada. It has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA in the USA and double platinum by the BPI in the United Kingdom, as well as triple platinum in Canada and platinum in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.
