WrestleMania XXVIII was the 28th annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the WWE. It took place on April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is the highest-grossing PPV event in professional wrestling history.
There were eight matches on the event's card and one pre-show match that was broadcast on YouTube. In the main event The Rock defeated John Cena and it had been advertised a year earlier, as it had been set up in the main event of the previous year’s WrestleMania XXVII. In other notable matches, The Undertaker defeated Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee, CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship, Big Show defeated Cody Rhodes to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and in the opening match Sheamus defeated Daniel Bryan to win the World Heavyweight Championship in an 18-second match.
The Rock vs John Cena match was rebroadcast by NBC and later released on DVD and Blu-ray, titled The Rock vs John Cena: Once in a Lifetime. The match was later included in WWE Best PPV Matches of 2012 as the most anticipated WrestleMania match of all time. Despite the title “Once in a Lifetime”, the two would fight each other again at WrestleMania 29 for the WWE Championship, with Cena emerging as the winner.
